Preview: Poland and Russia – Group A Match In Euro 2012

June 12, 2012

Poland and Russia, both the teams from Group A are ready to confront each other on June 12, 2012 at National Stadium, Warsaw at 20.45 hours UCT. Both the teams are heading towards the last eight after crossing the group stage. This is the second match of the day. This match seems to be something more than just a sports match because many incidents off the field are expected depending on the outcome of the match. These two neighboring nations were engaged in war for a long time and Russia had always been the winning side. So a red alert has been send to all the forces to be ready for controlling any mishaps that may emerge due to the outcome.

After ending the inaugural match against Greece in 1-1 draw, Poland needs a win against Russia to inch their way towards the final eight. In this match, their coach, Franciszek Smuda wants exactly the same performance level in both attack and defense among his team boys that they have exposed in the first half of last day’s match. He may reform the final eleven to put up a strong set up against Russia. The most probable change that he may bring is the inclusion of Dariusz Dudka who is a defensive midfielder. He can also reveal the talent of Adrian Mierzejewski or Kamil Grosicki as midfielder who are new in this team. Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been suspended in the first match and Przemyslaw Tyton as his replacement has saved his team from a penalty shot and now he will continue for the rest of the tournament.

Russia is already heading in group stage after defeating Czech Republic in 4-1 in their first match. One more win will guarantee their position in the final eight. Their impressive start in Euro 2012 has not only delivered a threatening message to their group teams but also for other teams. In this match, Coach Dick Advocaat will probably make no changes in his squad after his team boys have given a superb performance in the first match. Although, there is no complaint, suspension or injury worry among the team players, Russian football federation is worried about their rowdy supporters because after last day’s win, the excited Russian mob misbehaved in the football ground. So this time, when the encounter of this two countries is a sensitive political issue, the national federation and the team have requested their supporters to behave properly and to accept the outcome peacefully.
